National Run A Mile Days 2016

Earlier this week, the 180one team went back to school and volunteered at Cedar Hills and Stoller Middle Schools’ National Run A Mile Days event.

Founded and produced by the American Running Association, National Run A Mile Days take place at schools across the country each year in May. The events celebrate the achievement of running a mile and promote running as an important aspect of overall health, fitness and well-being for people of all ages.

Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District sponsored the Cedar Hills/Stoller event for the second year in a row. Last year, more than 700 students participated; this year that number doubled, with all students in grades 6 through 8 participating in running events that took place over two days.

National
180one cheered on two groups of 8th graders and one group of 6th graders as they ran three laps around the school to complete a mile. We met them at the finish line with t-shirts, water and snacks and congratulated them on their accomplishment. This was a fun and energetic event to help out with, and our team had a great time reliving the glory days (or not-so-glory days) of middle school for an afternoon.

The Cedar Hills/Stoller event is one of only a few events that take place in Oregon currently, but any schools can participate! Visit National Run A Mile Days’ website to learn about the simple steps it takes to host an event at your local elementary or middle school in 2017.
